Fine & rare antique Chinese solid silver fingernail guard (Zhijiatao) Qing Dynasty.
Skilfully handmade, it features extremely fine all over hand chased naturalistic details.
In very good condition and bears the makers mark.
Fingernail guards originated during the Ming dynasty and became popular during the Qing dynasty. Long fingernails were a status symbol among the high echelons of society, indicating that they were not required to perform manual labour.
The piece is tactile and beautifully proportioned with a length of 60mm.
